10 Unique Ways to Personalise Your Wedding Dress | Juno Bridal Wear
For us, your wedding outfit should be one thing above all else: a reflection of you. Your personality, your style, and something that makes you feel absolutely fabulous.
If you’re struggling to find something that feels right in traditional bridal shops, a bespoke wedding dress or outfit can be the perfect way to ensure you get exactly what you want. However, if bespoke design isn’t within your budget, or if you find it hard to visualise a design from scratch, that doesn’t mean you have to compromise.
The good news? You don’t need to design from scratch to create a one-of-a-kind wedding look. There are so many ways to personalise a wedding dress, from subtle details to bold transformations. This way you can have a custom wedding outfit that no one else has, and is unique to you. At Juno Bridal Wear, we specialise in bespoke outfits and alterations, so we see first-hand how even the smallest change can make a huge difference.
Here are 10 creative ways we can personalise your wedding dress.
1. Add Colour with Dip-Dye
We’re over the assumption that wedding outfits have to be white - go for colour if you love colour! Dip-dyed wedding dresses or outfits are perfect if you want something fun, colourful, and unique. Even if you’ve bought your dress from elsewhere, we can dip dye *most fabrics*, and we can always add a layer of dip dye as an overskirt if you want two looks from one outfit.
2. Swap Out Fabrics or Lace
Sometimes the fabric can completely change the vibe of your gown. You might love your silhouette but wish it came with a layer of glitter, lace or a fun lining colour. At Juno, we offer eco tulle skirts and custom lace overlays so you can reimagine your dress without losing the elements you love.
3. Personalised Embellishments
Adding custom embellishments is an amazing way to express your personality. Sequins, bows, butterflies, pearls… the possibilities are endless. You can have anything embroidered on to your wedding dress or veil, think; names, handwritten text from a loved one, flowers to match the ones in your bouquet, your pet’s face, even a quote from a song. We’re here to make all your weird and wonderful ideas come to life!
4. Alter the Neckline
Changing your neckline is quite a dramatic alteration, but if you know you loved another neckline and wished it was that way on your outfit - then shoot us a message and a photo and we’ll tell you if it’s possible. A sweetheart cut softens the look, a square neckline feels more modern, and an off-the-shoulder design adds instant romance. Changes here can really transform how your look makes you feel.
5. Statement Sleeves
Detachable sleeves are such an underrated way to create a look that is uniquely yours. And the best part? You can take them off later for a whole new evening look, we even have a lot of customers going for 2 sets of sleeves. We love this because you can go for romantic off-the-shoulder sleeves for your ceremony and then playful puff sleeves to transition into party time!
6. Add a Pop of Sparkle
From a glitter-tulle skirt to delicate crystal trims, we’re here for it. Think shimmering in the sunlight or twinkling under fairy lights - it’s so magical! You could always add some beaded lace to your bodice, or for two looks in one, a glitter overskirt would be GORGEOUS.
7. Incorporate Personal Symbols
One of the most meaningful ways to personalise your gown is through embroidery. We’ve added initials, quotes, dates, even little motifs that only the couple understands. One of our brides opted for a custom bow, which featured her initials and a Yorkshire white rose, and her husband's initials on the other side, with a Welsh dragon. What a special and beautiful way to celebrate a Yorkshire lass marrying a Welshman.
8. Make It Comfy
And this one’s different for everyone, but your wedding outfit may need to be altered to work for your needs. We are experienced in designing and altering outfits for individuals who use wheelchairs and/ or walking aids. We make custom adaptations for specific needs, including accommodations for feeding tubes, catheters, and other medical devices. We are a fully accessible wedding boutique, and it’s so important to us that everyone feels as comfortable as possible on their wedding day, so you can focus on enjoying the party. Find out more about alterations here.
9. Add Colour With Lace
If you love the silhouette and fabric of your outfit but you just wish it had some lace/ more lace or colour on there, that can easily be added in alterations. We’ve added pops of colourful lace onto dresses in the past, and it really can breathe new life and an extra element of fun into any wedding look.
10. Transform with Accessories
The right accessories can make your outfit feel complete. At Juno, all of our veils and bows can be ordered in any length and colour, so you can personalise your look on a smaller budget. We also LOVE to utilise leftover fabric from your dress to make matching scrunchies or garters so everything ties together. It’s sustainable and sentimental.
Your wedding look should feel like an extension of you. Whether that means adding colour, changing the fit, or designing from scratch, there are endless ways to make your outfit one-of-a-kind. To learn more about the alterations process, see our alterations guide here.
